Enterprise Architect Consultant - Crown Corporation - BC, Canada

On behalf of our Crown Corporation client based in British Columbia, Canada, Brainhunter Systems Ltd. is seeking an Enterprise Architect consultant for an upcoming 18 month contract position with a high likeliness of extension.

The targeted start date for this position is October 2025. This is a remote-first opportunity with occasional on site meetings/work in Victoria, BC.

Scope:

Our client is undertaking a Business Continuity and Disaster Recovery (BC/DR) program to enhance enterprise resilience across applications, infrastructure, data, and business processes. This initiative includes assessing current capabilities, identifying gaps, and developing a governed, sustainable BC/DR architecture. As part of this effort, they are also looking to advance related enterprise architecture capabilities, such as business architecture, capability
mapping, and roadmap development, where they directly support or enable continuity planning and organizational resilience.

The Enterprise Architect will lead alignment of BC/DR strategy with enterprise goals, risk appetite, and governance frameworks. May also support adjacent enterprise architecture initiatives that inform resilience or continuity outcomes.

Enterprise Architect (EA)
Strategy & Planning
  • Lead the development of an enterprise-wide BC/DR architectural strategy aligned with our client's risk tolerance, business priorities, and IT governance framework, while also supporting broader enterprise planning initiatives were aligned with resilience and continuity goals.
  • Define principles, standards, and policies for continuity and resilience across all architectural domains (business, application, data, and technology).
  • Contribute to enterprise capability models that incorporate resilience as a foundational design attribute, enabling improved readiness and strategic planning across business functions.
  • Recommend roadmap initiatives that support long-term BC/DR program sustainability and inform enterprise priorities such as modernization, risk mitigation, and strategic investments.
  • Apply industry-recognized architecture and risk management frameworks such as TOGAF, ISO 22301, and ISO 31000 where applicable to continuity planning and enterprise modeling.
Design and Development
  • Develop current and target state enterprise architecture models to support BC/DR capability maturity.
  • Design logical and conceptual architectures that address system interdependencies and cascading failure risks and contribute to enterprise-level models that may extend beyond
  • BC/DR where beneficial to organizational readiness or modernization.
  • Create reference architectures and transition states, including patterns for continuity planning, recovery orchestration, and service failover.
  • Integrate business continuity objectives into enterprise architecture layers, with consideration for cloud systems, physical systems, and hybrid systems.
  • Leverage enterprise architecture tools and modeling platforms such as Sparx EA, ArchiMate, or comparable systems to maintain documentation and visual representations of architectural states.
Stakeholder Engagement
  • Facilitate architecture workshops with business leaders, project managers, and technical SMEs to ensure alignment and shared understanding across BC/DR and adjacent enterprise initiatives such as capability mapping, technology roadmapping, or business architecture planning.
  • Act as an advisor to executive stakeholders on the architectural implications of resilience and recovery investment decisions.
  • Coordinate with IT Security, Data Governance, and Infrastructure teams to maintain a unified strategic direction.
  • Provide architectural advisory services that consider public-sector governance structures and stakeholder environments with competing business priorities.
Delivery and Oversight
  • Oversee architecture decisions related to BC/DR and contribute to cross-functional programs where architectural leadership is required to ensure alignment with enterprise strategy, resilience, and IT transformation efforts.
  • Evaluate third-party and internal solutions for conformance with continuity design principles.
  • Contribute to steering committees or working groups focused on enterprise risk, resilience, or transformation efforts.
Documentation and Knowledge Transfer
  • Produce and maintain deliverables including capability maps, architecture decisions records, high level roadmaps, and governance charters. Prepare briefing materials and summary documentation for executive and operational audiences.
Preferred Qualifications and Tools Knowledge:
Proponents are encouraged to have the following:
  • Certification in enterprise architecture (e.g., TOGAF, BIZBOK)
  • Experience using modeling and governance platforms such as LeanIX, Ardoq, or Orbus iServer
  • Familiarity with Agile or hybrid project delivery models (e.g., SAFe)
 
  • A minimum 8 years of experience in enterprise architecture, including roles involving business continuity, disaster recovery, or organizational resilience
  • Experience spanning at least three architecture domains: Business, Application, Data, and Technology
  • Demonstrated ability to define enterprise principles, standards, and continuity governance frameworks
  • Experience applying BC/DR principles within enterprise capability models, including strategic planning and transformation contexts
  • Ability to align architectural strategies with enterprise goals, risk tolerance, and investment priorities
  • Experience supporting related initiatives such as digital transformation, financial system modernization, or application portfolio planning
  • Experience working in or with public sector, regulated, or complex multi-stakeholder environments
  • Ability to apply internationally recognized standards such as ISO 22301 or ISO27031 in architecture practice
  • Ability to demonstrate clear articulation of how enterprise architecture enables governed, sustainable BC/DR capabilities
  • Ability to connect architectural decisions to resilience outcomes, business risk posture, and executive priorities
  • Demonstrated understanding of how enterprise architecture supports organizational agility, capability development, and strategic prioritization
