  • Job-Type: Long-Term Contract opportunity. Initial contract of 12 months, with good possibilities of extensions. 
  • Location: Pickering, ON L1W 3J2, Canada.
  • Work Style: 40 hours/week. Hybrid Work setting - 3 days/week in the office required. 
  • Travel Requirements: Regular travel/visits to client sites in the Durham region are required, as well as occasional travel within the GTA

NOTE: Nuclear Worker / OPG / Bruce Power Security Clearance is an asset.


Accountabilities/Deliverables
To deliver electrical engineering expertise to power generation utilities and other customers. The specific accountabilities of the position are as follows:

  • Provide input and direction to the development of conceptual/detailed equipment designs as they progress through a structured design process.
  • Provide technical oversight and mentoring of more junior members of the Engineering team.
  • Provide electrical power distribution design and analysis for operating nuclear and other industrial plants.
  • Perform condition assessments of electrical equipment such as transformers, breakers, switch gears, electric motors, motor control centers, generators, and other power plant equipment.
  • Develop life cycle plans, including inspection and test programs.
  • Perform engineering change design and analysis following established Engineering Change Control procedures.
  • Perform electrical analysis, equipment protection, cable, and electrical equipment selection.  
  • Interface with construction/procurement partners and utility stakeholders throughout the lifecycle of the design project (i.e., from preliminary and conceptual engineering to detailed design, implementation, and close-out) to provide practical and effective solutions as per requirements.
  • Provide field support to multi-disciplined plant design modifications, including provision of field engineering.
  • Provide technical guidance and direction on projects, and act as the design team lead where appropriate.
  • Understand and assess client problems and determine appropriate means of solution.
  • Interface effectively with other staff on multi-disciplinary projects.
  • Stay current with developments within your field of expertise.
  • Regular travel/visits to client sites in the Durham region are required, as well as occasional travel within the GTA.

Ideal Candidate for this Role

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Electrical Engineering (or equivalent) is required.
  • 5+ years’ experience in electrical design engineering.
  • A Professional Engineer of Ontario (PEO), or eligible for PEO status, with a passion for engineering.
  • Proven track record in electrical design and analysis in electrical power distribution, including application to nuclear plants.
  • Strong knowledge of generating station power upgrades, including necessary system protection/system stability, and relaying.
  • Experience in performing condition assessments of electrical equipment such as transformers, breakers, switch gears, electric motors, motor control centers, generators, and other power plant equipment.
  • Knowledge of the life cycle management of electrical equipment.
  • In-depth knowledge and experience of the use of appropriate codes and standards (e.g., N299 and CSA N286), as applied to nuclear plants and conventional plants.
  • Experience in project management and interfacing with and coordinating activities of multi-disciplinary teams.
  • Knowledge and experience working with nuclear power plant (Bruce Power, OPG, NB Power, or other) systems & processes, e.g,. Engineering Change Control is an asset.
  • Good time management skills and demonstrated capability to interface effectively with and gain the trust of station customers.
  • Good understanding of nuclear power plant design and operation.
  • Experience in leading technical projects to successful conclusions.
  • Assist in the development of proposals and the negotiation of contracts with clients.
  • Excellent communication skills, both written and oral, and have demonstrated a high commitment to quality.
  • Excellent problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to lead complex and/or multi-disciplinary projects.

  • Must be able to organize and prioritize assigned work and coordinate multiple activities efficiently.
