Brainhunter is currently seeking “Data Steward Specialist” to work for our valued Financial Service Client. The position requires the successful consultant to be on-site 3 days a week in Toronto. The Data Steward Specialist is part of the Enterprise Data Governance Team and plays an essential role the advancement of our data strategy and maintenance of existing Data Governance Practices and will be focused on supporting the business directly. This role provides the opportunity to balance enablement of our business with the governance of our data assets to ensure the trust and protection of the data in our care. The successful candidate will join a skilled team of like-minded colleagues who are naturally curious, collaborative and strive to make sense of our data, protect it and work to enable the business to advance their data roadmaps. What you will do
Be the face of the business domain and fully understanding and assisting the business needs and requirements to implement data governance mandates
Support the development, maintenance, and enhancement of data governance standards, processes, and practices with focus on managing and operationalizing requirements for a specific or targeted business domains
Support the implementation and adoption of data governance across the enterprise
Work with technology and business users to ensure our data is understood and reflected in our Data Inventory to enable people to find what, when and why they need it for
Analyzing and interpreting data discovery results, identifying potential issues related to data governance, privacy, security, and other related policies and standards
Create a data catalog that defines and organizes all sensitive data elements (MS Purview, Collibra, etc.)
Remediating sensitive data handling gaps identified by data solution with focus on securing data for the specific business domain/s (e.g., if firm mandates CCN should be encrypted and identifies plain text CCN, right to be to be forgotten)
Tracking and triage on data being retained for more than the retention duration and find solutions to remediate
Apply knowledge in Data Loss Prevention (DLP), encryption, data classification & handling, End User Computing (EUC), Personal Information (PI) for Privacy
Support requirement definition and analysis and build in the enterprise data platform on behalf of the business unit/s, connecting people to the data they need
Support strategic decisions, issues, risks, and milestones related to data initiatives
What you will bring
1-4 years of applied data governance and Artificial Intelligence (AI) experience with expertise in managing unstructured data
Expert in Microsoft products (PowerPoint and Excel)
Excellent communication and presentation skills
Agile, practical, customer service-oriented mindset (doesn’t over complicate processes)
Passionately curious and excited to learn new things, and ability to work in a fast-paced environment
Experience in financial services and insurance is an asset
Must be Protected-B Clearance ready, obtained from the RCMP
Data certification in Data Management or Data Governance an asset (e.g. DGSP or CDMP)
Working knowledge of data governance and management technology an asset (e.g. Collibra, Microsoft Purview)
Tracking and Triage of results for flagged rules on unstructured/digital data (e.g., Bill 64/Rule 25, PIPEDA, PCI DSS)/ rule violation instances
Any specific tools/skillset:
Understanding of data governance and Artificial Intelligence (AI) principles
Attention to detail, time management, and analyzing and problem solving abilities
Experience in metadata analysis and tagging; Microsoft products excel, Purview and using minimal SQL coding via Databricks to assist with developing regular expressions.
Utilizing Collibra or other data governance toolset
Ability to communicate technical details to a business user
Monitoring and testing functionalities and environments
Role profile description: As the Subject Matter Expert (SME) and the key point of contact for those creating and consuming data within their domain, the data steward Specialist works with various data governance stakeholders to ensure the establishment of data management standards for the company’s Enterprise Platform (EP) project, including the following:
Analyze existing data documentation to identify Critical Data Elements (CDEs), define and document data definitions, data mapping, business rules, data classification, data quality (DQ) rules for CDEs
Define data access requirements for EP data
Contribute to the establishment of historical data retention policy, compliance/privacy policy and security policy
Support business users with data questions and facilitate discussion to help them understand data and get access to EP data required for their business decisions
Work with stakeholders to implement and carry out actions outlined in the Data Governance Roadmap for the company to successfully implement Data Governance structure and processes, including building data glossaries, defining CDEs and DQ rules
Spread data awareness across the organization and ensure data literacy and data-driven decisions are promoted to maximize the use and value of data for the business.
Work closely with the data owner to make sure data is protected and used for authorized purposes only
Collaborate with business users and the technical team to make data availability easy and simple for users
Implement and adopt data quality strategy, profile data assets, and define proactive and reactive DQ rules for specific domains
Identify and oversee the data quality issues, maintain issue repository, and work with the technical team to manage resolution
Perform audits, risk assessments to make sure data governance process and policies are followed diligently and identify data-related process improvement opportunities
Support efforts to build metadata repositories, business glossary, data lineage, and training materials
Review enterprise data assets to define attributes, identify CDE and classify and establish KPIs for their domains
