About the Job:
Mindwire is currently seeking a Finance Director, Corporate Accounting to work for our valued client.



Responsibilities:
  • Reporting to the Vice President, Corporate Services and CFO, the Director Corporate Accounting manages the corporate accounting functions across the organization.
    The primary responsibilities of this position are to supervise, coordinate and control all aspects of corporate accounting including preparation of financial statements, statutory filings, general ledger management, management of treasury, payroll, internal controls, and external audits.
  • Develops and implements accounting and finance policies, procedures and internal controls
  • Oversees and controls all financial accounting functions at HQ, regional and country offices including AP, AR, GL, fixed assets, etc.
  • Controls the use and access to the accounting system and ensures adequate training is provided.
  • Manages the month end and year-end close processes, including preparation of financial statements.
  • Ensures compliance with applicable regulations and statutory filing requirements.
  • Oversees payroll processes, manages, and administers the pension plan.
  • Determines accounting treatment and financial implications of complex transactions in a global context ensuring compliance with relevant standards.  
  • Supports the overall corporate accounting requirements of country and regional offices and provides guidance and support to finance staff.
  • Oversees the global banking strategy and banking arrangements for accounts globally in close coordination with regional finance directors and Director Budgeting & Compliance and CFO.
  • Manages cash flow requirements for all offices.
  • Manages the investment portfolio and invests surplus funds according to corporate policy
  • Oversee the issuance of payments on a weekly basis.
  • Manage the annual external audit process for HQ and country offices, including financial statements and note disclosures.
  • Responsible for corporate accounting transformation initiatives in line with unit and organizational priorities including but not limited to business process redesign, automation, standardization and developing policies and procedures in line with best practice standards and organizational needs.
  • Leading and overseeing financial accounting software acquisition and migration efforts.
  • Maintains oversight of internal control and risks relevant to the function including it’s reporting in accordance with the organizations risk management framework.
  • Manages HQ and overall corporate insurance.
  • Ensures adherence to Delegation of Authority Matrix.
  • Lead and coordinate the work of the team, including establishing a shared vision, a culture of effective teamwork among team members and other units.
  • Assign work to team members ensuring that work plans are developed and adjusted on an ongoing basis in line with the Unit work plan.
  • Ensure the performance of staff is effectively appraised and that mentoring needs or training required to improve staff performance are identified and supported. 
  • Determine staffing requirements for optimal delivery of services within budget limits.  Work with HR to recruit and provide appropriate orientation for new staff. 

Requirements and Qualifications:
  • University degree in Accounting, Finance or Business
  • A recognized accounting designation (CPA, CA, CMA or CGA).
  • Minimum of 10 years of experience, with at least 4-5 years at a senior level in accounting and finance in a not-for-profit environment and managing staff.
  • Experience developing policies, procedures and documentation
  • Well-grounded knowledge and comprehensive understanding of financial accounting and reporting in accordance with Canadian GAAP and ASNPO standards.
