On behalf of our client, Brainhunter is seeking an Oracle Data Base Administrator to fulfill a 1 year contract in the Greater Vancouver Area. The chosen candidate will have 7+ years of experience with Oracle databases and be living and eligible to live and work in Vancouver.

 

Position Specific Skills or Qualifications Required:

• A University degree in Computer Sciences, Information Technology, Engineering or any other relevant field
• A minimum of seven plus (7+) years of experience as an Oracle database administrator with either 11g, 12c or higher versions of the database.
• Demonstrated Oracle database technical skills, including a superior understanding of backup, recovery, disaster recovery,ASM and Grid Infrastructure, Data Guard, systems maintenance, performance and tuning and support of high availability technologies (Oracle Real Application Cluster- RAC). Proven skills in Oracle database upgrades (eg. 10 to 11g, 11g to 12c, etc.)
• Superior knowledge of database monitoring/system management (OEM) methods
• Proven experience with one or more of the following Operating Systems – SuSe Linux, Redhat Linux, would be an asset
• Strong scripting skills in two or more of: PL/SQL, PowerShell, Bash, Borne, Korn, Perl
• Proven experience with server and storage sub-systems and backup infrastructure

 

Key Job Accountabilities and Responsibilities:

• The key accountabilities for this contracting position could be one of two roles. One is to provide backfilling operational support for the current DBA team. Depending on the team resourcing, the operational role could be in addition to the role of upgrading the corporate databases. The current teams model is to allow the internal resources to perform both operational work and project work to maintain the skills. The contractor is to provide backfill and supplemental resource role to the team.
• Database Administration roles include the installation, configuration, and patching of the company's Oracle database platform. Design, implement and maintain database security to ensure the highest standards to availability, resilience, integrity and performance across the company's internal system;
• Assess, design, plan the Oracle DB upgrades and the implementation of all the corporate enterprise Oracle databases in its non production and production landscape;
• Design and implement redundant systems, policies, and procedures for disaster recovery and data archiving to ensure effective protection and integrity of data assets;
• Work as technical lead for the Oracle Database platform to provide subject matter expertise on the relational database's performance and capacity, security, and database infrastructure design;
• Provide consultation, estimation, database design options based on business requirements, assess technical feasibility, creating the solution and implementation;
• Manage database use and licensing ensuring compliance;

Key Deliverables:

• Provide DBA operational support (eg. health check, performance tuning, access request fulfillment, DB service ticket fulfillment, patching, DB environment refreshes, etc.)
• Provide DBA project support (eg. Oracle upgrade, DB provisioning for new databases, DB consulting for performance tuning and diagnostics, etc.)
• Document revised and new processes, update service and problem tickets
• Submit technical service requests to Oracle for system DB problems and remediate according to Oracle's recommendations
• Provide timely operational work status and project status reports every week
• Ensure work timesheet is accurate and submitted weekly
